Danger!

I snapped a pic of this warning sign awhile ago and forgot to post it. There are actually a few in the area. I'm not sure the exact meaning of this sign, whether warning about church pedestrians or letting you know traffic might be piling up or some other reason, but I doubt it was the meaning that I got out of it. It's a shame that you don't see more of these around, and that they probably don't warn people away.

  1. Speaking of getting a different meaning out of something than what was intended, every time I drive down to the DFW area to visit my wife's family, we drive by this place called "Overcoming Faith Christian Center." I'm pretty sure they mean "overcoming faith" differently than I read it.

I just checked their website for the first time. I'd always felt a bit guilty making fun of the place before, because with a name like that, combined with the fact that it doesn't look particularly like a traditional church, I thought it was some type of rehabilitation center or shelter. Nope. Just some mega church with a TV show. They don't even make any pretence of fleecing the flock - the first thing you see on the website are special offers on their DVDs and books. Meh. I shouldn't have ever gone there. I should have just kept my illusion that they were good people (even if a little misguided about religion).

  2. (I hit the "Publish" button too soon).

Now, every time I drive past the place on the way to my brother's-in-law place, it'll leave a sour taste in my mouth.

  3. That's funny. It sounds like a drug rehab kind of place to get over theonoma.

On a similar, but non religious topic. I'm sure you've seen the

signs, but there is one in our area that is done slightly different that I always regretfully laugh at. It's positioned on the sign more like this, which kind of puts the natural pause in the wrong place. All the words are also the same size instead of the slow being larger.
